Fuel Efficient Cars popular in Web Searches

In what can hardly be considered a surprise, car dealers and websites are reporting an increase in traffic ( foot and web) and interest ( searches) for fuel efficient- or "high mpg"- cars.

For example the Automotive editor of OrlandoSentinel.com reports that Carmax.com searches for more fuel efficient vehicles like the Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, and New VW Beetle are way up.

This is not surprising with gas over $4.00 per gallon in much of the country, even with recent price drops. In Orlando, for example, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.95.

It will be interesting to see how fuel price trends continue and what this means for compact car sales as well as the future of SUVs.
